Outlet & Switch Installation in Worcester County
Outlets and switches are the parts of your electrical system you touch every day, and the ones most likely to fall behind code in an older home. Ungrounded receptacles, missing GFCI protection, and worn switches are safety risks. Our licensed team brings them all up to current Massachusetts code.
Are your outlets and switches up to current code?
Older Worcester County homes frequently have ungrounded outlets, missing GFCI protection, and two-prong receptacles that cannot support modern devices. We bring everything up to current Massachusetts code.
Quality you can count on
Every outlet and switch job we complete is installed to current NEC and Massachusetts electrical code, permitted with your city or town where required, and tested before we call it done. No shortcuts, no surprises.
A team built on one standard
Paul Bergeron Jr. founded this company in 2006 on the belief that electrical work should be done right the first time. Every technician on our team is trained to that same standard. From the initial assessment through the final walkthrough, we treat your home the way we would treat our own.

Outlet and switch types we install
Types of Outlets and Switches We Install
GFCI Outlets
GFCI outlets are required by Massachusetts code in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoor areas, and unfinished basements. If your home still has standard non-GFCI outlets in these areas, they are both a safety risk and a code violation. We install GFCI outlets and GFCI-protected circuits throughout Worcester County.
AFCI Outlets and Breakers
AFCI protection is required by current code in bedrooms, living rooms, and most finished spaces in new construction and major renovations. AFCI devices detect arc faults a leading cause of residential electrical fires and trip the circuit before a fire can start. We install both AFCI outlets and AFCI breakers depending on your panel configuration.
USB Outlets
USB-A and USB-C receptacles replace standard outlets and allow direct device charging without adapters. We install them in kitchens, home offices, nightstands, and anywhere you are routinely plugging in phones, tablets, and other devices.
Smart Outlets and Switches
Smart outlets and dimmer switches integrate with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. We wire them with proper neutral wires a common issue in older homes and configure them for app and voice control. We also install smart switch panels for whole-room or multi-switch setups.
Outdoor Outlets
Outdoor GFCI outlets with weatherproof in-use covers are required wherever exterior power is needed for holiday lighting, landscaping equipment, outdoor kitchens, and EV charger prep. We install outdoor outlets with proper weatherproof covers and conduit protection where required.
Aluminum Wiring and Older Outlet Systems
Many Worcester County homes built between 1965 and 1975 have aluminum branch circuit wiring. Aluminum wiring requires CO/ALR rated outlets and switches standard copper-rated devices on aluminum wiring are a fire hazard. If you have aluminum wiring and are replacing outlets or switches, we use only CO/ALR rated devices and apply anti-oxidant compound at every connection point, the correct repair method required by Massachusetts code and endorsed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Permit Requirements for Outlet and Switch Work
In Massachusetts, replacing an existing outlet or switch like-for-like typically does not require a permit. However, adding new outlets or circuits, moving outlet locations, or installing new circuits requires an electrical permit. Bergeron Contracting handles all permit applications when required and schedules the inspection as part of the job. We never skip the permit step it protects your home and your homeowner’s insurance coverage.

Replacing an existing outlet like-for-like typically does not require a permit in Massachusetts. However, adding new outlets, moving outlet locations, or installing new circuits does require an electrical permit. Bergeron Contracting handles all permit applications when required the cost is included in your estimate.
A GFCI outlet monitors the flow of current and trips instantly if it detects a ground fault preventing electrocution. Massachusetts code requires GFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoor areas, unfinished basements, and anywhere within six feet of a water source. If your home has standard outlets in these areas, they should be upgraded.
AFCI outlets and breakers detect arc faults abnormal electrical discharges that can cause fires inside walls where they cannot be seen. Current Massachusetts code requires AFCI protection in bedrooms, living rooms, and most finished spaces in new construction and major renovations. Older homes are not automatically required to upgrade, but it is a worthwhile safety improvement.
Yes. We install smart outlets and dimmer switches compatible with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. Many older homes lack the neutral wire that smart switches require we identify this at the estimate and route the neutral where needed. We also configure the devices before we leave.
Aluminum wiring requires CO/ALR rated outlets and switches standard copper-rated devices on aluminum wiring are a fire hazard. Bergeron Contracting identifies aluminum wiring during the estimate and uses only CO/ALR rated devices with anti-oxidant compound at every connection, the correct repair method required by Massachusetts code.
Replacing an existing outlet typically costs $75 to $200 per outlet depending on the type (GFCI, AFCI, USB, smart) and accessibility. Adding a new outlet on an existing circuit costs more. Adding a new dedicated circuit starts higher. We provide a written estimate after seeing the scope of work.
Yes. We install outdoor GFCI outlets with weatherproof in-use covers on all exterior surfaces. Outdoor outlets require a dedicated weatherproof cover and proper conduit protection where exposed. We pull the permit when required and install to current Massachusetts code.
